What problem-solving strategy can I use to help me calculate profit by adding and subtracting decimals? Essential Question

U P S C

Has $7.50 Buys a screen protector $1.75 Buys a phone case $3.49 How much money does he have left? I need to add to find out how much he spent. Then I need to subtract to find out how much he has left over. $3.49 +$1.75 $5.24 $7.50 -$5.24 $2.26 Is my answer reasonable? I know he had $7.50, but spent money. When you spend money, it is taken away so you have to subtract.

Find out total cost to make the candle by adding all the costs together. Subtract the total cost from how much he sells the candle for to find out the profit. Making a selling candles Costs to make: $0.85, $1.25, $0.13 Selling candle for $6.25 How much profit (How much does he make after buying materials?) $0.85 $1.25 +$0.13 $2.23 $6.25 -$2.23 $4.02 He will make a profit of $4.02 on every candle he sells. My answer is reasonable. He spends money on supplies so we subtract that from the amount he sells the candle for.
