Introduction to Pro Bono

What is Pro Bono? Non sibs sed omnibus - not for oneself but for all. Supporting local and international causes to alleviate poverty, fight injustice and support human rights. Giving up your time on a voluntary basis for people who need legal and non-legal assistance. Developing students skills and knowledge through negotiation and information. Developing and spreading the message of key causes Best Academic Society on Campus Offering projects exclusive to Pro Bono Society in Nottingham. Rewarding student volunteers for their achievements and hard work. Widest range of projects, events and opportunities of any student society in the UK. Hardworking committee who consider student and community needs. Free to join!

Why do Pro Bono? helping the community Raising money for charity topical talks 8 different projects running regular volunteering opportunities. Fundraising through cake sales, pub quizzes and legal walks. Presentations given from a variety of speakers on core issues. top prizes cv skills social events Amazon Vouchers, work experience and tons more! Develop your skills in negotiation, problem solving, communication and organisation. Non-alcoholic social events across Nottingham!

Our Categories We run eight projects spanning three core categories. The Pro Bono Society committee also runs more general talks, workshops and events outside our main projects. educaTion Penal community Our Education category includes Aspire and Outlaw. Aspire hosts workshops on human rights in primary schools and Outlaw widens participation by teaching secondary school students about life at university. Our Penal category consists on the Unbarred, Howard League for Penal Reform and Nottingham Conviction Review Clinic. These projects give students the opportunity to learn more about the penal system and prisoners’ legal and procedural rights. Our Community category consists of StreetLaw, Negotiations Competition and Junior Lawyers Against Poverty. These projects are wide ranging and focus on improving students core skills and helping the community using legal and non-legal methods.
