Patellar tendinosis

Background Basketball is known for its vigorous movement upper body strength particularly in the arms 3 common injuries: Ankle sprains, Patellar tendonitis, ACL tears Patellar Tendonitis also known as jumper’s knee inflammation to the tendon connecting your kneecap (patella) to your shinbone

Cause involve frequent chronic jumping after long periods mechanism of injury could be dunking large amount of force on your legs after large exertion

Symptoms Pain directly over the patellar tendon, stiffness of the knee pain when bending the knee, pain in the quadriceps muscle, and leg or calf weakness. balance problems, warmth, tenderness, and or swelling around the lower knee

Question 1 The muscles around the knee include the quadriceps and the hamstring. The quadriceps muscle helps straighten and extend the leg, and the hamstring helps bend the knee. An injury such as this can limit and possibly disable these movements

Question 2 . Continued activity slows down the process of muscle repairing resulting in more tearing and more usually increased amounts of pain.

Question 3 The main group that suffers from this injury is any athlete, it does not affect specific age groups or gender it occurs in anyone who frequently does a specific action or process.

Assessment of the injury Athletic trainers evaluate it by checking visually and running the brush sweep wipe test and Ballotable Patella Test

Diagnosis of the injury Small tears of the tendon can make it difficult to walk and participate in other daily activities A large tear of the patellar tendon is a disabling injury. Partial tears. Many tears do not completely disrupt the soft tissue A complete tear will disrupt the soft tissue into two pieces When a patellar tendon tears there is often a tearing or popping sensation

Treatment invasive treatments before considering other options, such as surgery A variety of physical therapy techniques can help reduce the symptoms associated with patellar tendinitis Stretching exercises and strengthening Steroid injections and surgery for long time injuries

Rehabilitation For rehab start slow and slowly increase speed strength and difficulty As soon as you notice exercise-related knee pain, ice the area and rest Strengthen your muscles. Strong thigh muscles are better able to handle the stresses that can cause patellar tendinitis
