Reconstruction Lasted from 1865-1877 Bringing the Southern states back into the Union Rebuilding the South

Reconstruction Under Andrew Johnson Go easy on the South Let the South pass “black codes” – limit the freedom of Blacks Land returned to Southern owners Southerners given power in Congress

Reconstruction Under Congress Congress wanted to impeach Johnson Took power away from the South Created the Freedmen’s Bureau

Reconstruction Under Congress Passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments South was divided into 5 military parts South HAD to agree to the 13th, 14th, and 15th amend. before being brought back into the Union
