What was the outcome of President Johnson’s impeachment trial? OCT 29 , 2013 R.A.W. What was the outcome of President Johnson’s impeachment trial? AIM:20 How did the Election of 1876 end RECONSTRUCTION?

I. President Grant U.S. Grant is elected in 1868. Grant will serve two terms(8 years till 1876) and was a very popular president. However, Grant’s advisors were very corrupt.

II. The Election of 1876 Rutherford B. Hayes (R) Samuel Tilden (D) Democrat Tilden was expected to win! The voting returns in three states were disputed.

Northern Republicans want the presidency. III. The Compromise of 1877 Northern Republicans want the presidency. Southern Democrates want the troops out of the South. Hayes is given the presidency if he takes the troops out of the south.

Who really loses from this compromise?? FREEDMEN are left alone. Southern whites takeover.
