WASTE MANAGEMENT

Recycling Bins The 3 R’s Black: Wet Garbage/ Food waste Green: Dry paper & cardboard White: Empty cans, bottles, tins, etc. Red: Non-recyclable items. Eg: Chocolate wrappers, silver foil, cling wrap, oily paper, etc.

WATER MANAGEMENT

Sewage Treatement Plant Aerators Aerators & Automatic sensor operated taps help save a lot of water Concealed cisterns use only 3/6 liters of water per flush instead of 10 in a regular flush. Sewage Treatement Plant Waste water is treated and then reused in areas like air conditioning, gardening & new constructions.

Water Management Water from water stations at banquets is sent to Ecorest. There it is used in the Bain Marie And later the hot water from the Bain Marie is used to mop the floors at Ecorest.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT

CFL Lamps/ LED Strips/ Flourescent Tubes These consume only 25% power in comparison and last 10 times longer than ordinary bulbs and are also much brighter. Mini Bars The mini bars used in guestrooms are equipped with 'Fuzzy Logic‘ sensors which senses the load inside the refrigerator and cools it accordingly.

Master Control Panel Double Glazed Windows The control panel incorporates a unique feature known as the 'Green button'/ 'Eco button'. Guests are informed at check-in On pressing the green button, the temperature rises by 2o C gradually which helps in energy conservation while not affecting comfort. Double Glazed Windows The windows comprise of a air tight sealed double glazed unit. These windows block the heat of the sun from entering the room and help in reducing the load on the air-conditioning units hence saving on energy costs.

Energy Management Rooms are cleaned in natural light whenever possible to reduce energy consumption. At the buffet counters, Induction plates are used instead of fuel cans. Having these signage outside the door in turn reduces the waste that would have been otherwise generated by having these signs made from paper.

ENVIRONMENT COMMITMENT

Amenities Laundry Keeping in mind our environmental theme, we use Herbal products, which are maufactured under an Ayurvedic license. These products are not tested on animals and do not contain any animal fat. We have reusable cloth laundry bags instead of standard paper or plastic bags. Guests can send their clothes for laundering and the same is delivered in reusable cane baskets wrapped in muslin cloth.

Newspapers Pens/Pencils We use eco-friendly pens and pencils. The eco-pens are made up of recycled cardboard, reprocessed plastic and scrap wood. Newspapers are delivered on guest request in jute bags. We encourage the use of E-Papers.

Stationery Slippers All paper products contain at least 25% recycled content. Even the slippers in the guest rooms are made from recyclable material. ie; Jute

'SOP' Card Water Flask & Glasses 'Save Our Planet' cards in guest rooms. If Guest places the card on the bed the room linen will not be changed for that day and the same linen will be reused. Water flasks in guestrooms refilled when guest arrives and glasses are kept inverted on coasters.

Cloth Mats & Runners Carbon Paper Herbal Pest Control To reduce the waste generated by our hotels, we use cloth mats instead of paper ones. This herbal solution contains extracts from herbs and does not contain harmful chemicals, there by there are no health hazards. No cleaning is required after the treatment is done, hence no wastage of water, detergents, etc. Chemicals used in carbon paper are toxic which kill the micro organisms that break down solid waste. So we avoid using carbon paper.

Cut Flowers Vs Potted Plants We use potted plants instead of cut flowers. These plants do not require much maintenance and take up less water.

EMPLOYEE ECOTEL INDUCTION AND REFRESHER TRAINING All employees are inducted about ECOTEL practices and regular trainings are conducted as a refresher. All employees are educated for energy conservation and preventive practices Assist the in all internal and external Eco activities. The green team implements, trains & audits environment practices. Besides regular trainings, the Green Team members on an ongoing basis carry out surprise checks of various departments & ensure that all hotel staff are well aware of our Ecotel Practices.
