Presentation transcript:

1.) R+O+Y+G+B+I+V = white Light and Color Sunlight is called white light and contains all the colors that we see. 1.) R+O+Y+G+B+I+V = white 2.) Primary colors of light = R+G+B=White 3.) The other colors we see (aqua, brown etc.) are mixtures of the 7 colors.

--Primary Colors of Pigment (paint) are Yellow, Cyan and Magenta 4.) A pigment is a molecule that gives a substance its color by absorbing some colors of light and reflecting others. --Primary Colors of Pigment (paint) are Yellow, Cyan and Magenta

5.) Seeing colors A. Light is either reflected or absorbed by an object. B. The colors we see are reflections of the colors (wavelengths) not absorbed by an object. O Y G B I V red light

Are David Bowie’s eyes a different color?

B. We see a white object when all colors are reflected. 6. Black and White A. We see a black object when no colors are reflected, all colors are absorbed and nothing comes to our eyes. B. We see a white object when all colors are reflected.

7.) Light and Heat A. Absorbed light is changed to heat energy. B. Black all colors are absorbed  more heat C. White  all colors are reflected  less heat

In the sun would a white car or a black car be hotter?? Why is wearing a white shirt on a hot day a good idea?
