Reading in Year 2 – New National Curriculum expectations *read accurately by blending, including alternative sounds for graphemes *read multisyllable words containing these graphemes *read common suffixes *read exception words *read most words quickly & accurately without overt sounding and blending *secure phonic decoding until reading is fluent *listening to and discussing views on a wide range of texts *retell a range of familiar stories and recite familiar poetry *discuss the meanings of new words as well as discussing favourite words *make inferences based on what they have read *make predictions based on what they have read *participate in discussion about a range of books *read-read familiar books to develop fluency, confidence and understanding
