HOW DO I GET INTO COLLEGE? Grade Point Average (GPA) Class Rank Strength/Difficulty of Course Selection Score on College Entrance Exam ACT, SAT Recommendations Activities/Awards/Honors/Community Service

COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS ACT (American College Test) Costs 42.50 per test w/out writing (58.50 w/ writing) Can take 7 times per year Scores range from 1 to 36 Tested in English, Reading, Math, and Science SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) Costs 45.00 per test w/out essay (57.00 w/ essay) Can take 8 times per year Scores range from 400 to 1600 Tested in Reading, Writing & Language, and Math

DUAL CREDIT COURSES Open for Juniors and Seniors who meet Dual Credit Requirements (see CPEG for details) Students can earn both high school and college credit Must pay for the college credit If course is passed, high school credit will be awarded Dual Credit courses are provided by MACC MACC policies are in place for all Dual Credit classes Sturgeon HS has both in house and on line Dual Credit classes In house examples are Composition, Chemistry, Art Appreciation, Introduction to Business

Personal Plan of Study (PPOS) Each student at Sturgeon High School has a personal plan of study This plan allows students to map out the courses they want to take during their 4 years in high school. Students will also indicate their plans for after high school on their PPOS each year Students will review this plan with their counselor and parents each year to make changes

High School Grading GPA is the term used to represent Grade Point Average High School GPA will be represented with a 4 point grading scale. 4.0 = A, 3.0 = B, 2.0 = C, 0.0 = F GPA, Class Rank, and Credits earned will be updated at the end of each semester GPA, Class Rank, and Credits earned will be listed on the student transcript Transcripts can be requested by students and parents through the counseling office

End of Course Exams (EOC’s) The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires high school students to take EOC’s in the following courses: American Government & the Economy, Algebra 1, Biology, and English 2 Traditionally, in order to determine mastery of content, Sturgeon HS has also tested students in Algebra 2 and Geometry. EOC’s test student mastery of the content and will serve as the 2nd semester final for the classes listed above.

BEGIN PLANNING FOR YOUR FUTURE NOW! Sturgeon High School offers several ways for students to begin planning out their life after high school. Each student has access to Missouri Connections and will be given activities to complete throughout their high school career Students will complete Interest Inventories, Skills Inventories, Reality Checks, Career Searches, College Searches, Scholarship Searches, etc. During students high school career they will have opportunities to: Attend College and Career Fairs Attend College Campus/Program Tours Take College Visits Job Shadow through the A+ Program

A+ Scholarship Program Allows eligible students to attend a public or community college or career/technical school in MO tuition free! Students must graduate with: Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher Cumulative attendance percentage of 95% Perform 50 hours of supervised tutoring/mentoring (12.5 hours can be job shadowing) Students must maintain good citizenship and avoid the use of alcohol and drugs Students must score a proficient or advanced on the Algebra I EOC or obtain required score on the math portion of the ACT Students & Parents must turn in their A+ Scholarship Program Letter of Intent and other paperwork in order to be enrolled in the program

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Earned Credit Policy/Attendance Academic Probation Class Dues (are subject to change) Students will pay a total of $100.00 in class dues $20.00 their 9th grade year $20.00 their 10th grade year $60.00 their 11th grade year Juniors will also be required to work concession stand nights as part of their fundraising responsibilities for prom. Class dues are used to pay for activities during their senior year including Prom.
