You are going to make a Sculpture: Animal- you have to make sure it can stand on its own. Has to be Balanced. It can also be a made-up animal or insect.

Steps: 1. Drawing from all sides 2. Construct using newspaper, rolls, tape and wire. 3. Add Paper Mache (several layers) 4. Dry completely 5. Paint using colors and designs

Construction: 1. Thumbnail sketch of the way you want your sculpture to look from the front, sides and back. 2. Begin construction by making the parts and features and taping them together.

Construction continued… 3. Make sure that your sculpture is fairly solid, and that it looks pretty much how you want it to be. 4. Make sure your sculpture can stand up on its own. (balanced) 5. It HAS TO WITHSTAND A SHAKE TEST FROM MRS. CROSS

Add Paper Mache 1. Before you start, make sure that your table is covered, so you don’t get paste all over the table! 2. Get a tub of paste, kind of swirl (do not shake) the paste around before using. 3. Tear a bunch of strips of newspaper.

4. One piece at a time, dip the paper into the paste, squeeze out the excess paste by running the paper through a couple of your fingers. 5. Apply the paper to your sculpture, and smooth it out with your fingers. It cannot have any wrinkles. 6. Continue until the whole sculpture has been covered with several layers.

Add Paper Mache Continued 7. You will change the direction you are putting the strips on for each layer. 8. Allow sculpture to dry completely, typically 24 hours, between layers. 9. By now your sculpture should be nice and firm, with a hard surface.

When completely finished with the paper… 1.Your Project has to be completely DRY! 2.You will use acrylic paint to paint your sculpture, adding designs 3.You will paint your sculpture: MEXICAN FOLK ART STYLE a. decorative colors and patterns b. YOU HAVE TO ADD DESIGNS!
