Find your Item or Color code and key in this slide match the theme used to designate materials within Schoolnet (there is one more level, the Curricular Unit, omit this) Facilitator should use a specific example from within School of a unit with lessons, resources and assessments linked (this can be something already in Schoolnet or created for training purposes). Instructional Units can be created by teachers and used to group together a series of related lesson plans and resources. Instructional Units can cover a specific unit or time of content. Lesson Plans are daily instructional plans that address a theme or topic related to a particular instructional unit. Resources are additional materials that supplement a lesson and/or unit. These could include presentations used for instruction, video clips, documents, worksheets, activities for students, or anything else that could be used to improve instruction and learning within the classroom. Assessments (documents) in the classrooms module are intended to be performance based or some for evaluating students learning that would not necessarily be created as an assessment that can be taken by a student within Schoolnet. Assessments or items created within the assessment admin module are not linked to instructional materials in the classrooms module. **Note to share with participants: Instructional units and lesson plans must be saved to My Materials to be available for scheduling in the Lesson Planner. 9

Proctor Dashboard = Real Time Data Streaming This section of the training steps you through creation of an Express Test –Your goal is to create a test that the “students” in THIS class WILL TAKE!  While they are taking the test, you will be projecting the Proctor Dashboard displaying the live feed of data from their tests.  This is VERY POWERFUL for them to see. 19

Class Progress Bring up the Proctor Dashboard to display WHILE the students are taking the test.  It has a LOT of impact when folks can see that this is REAL TIME data being fed into Schoolnet.  So be SURE to do this WHILE they are taking it so they can see the results populating as they answer each question. Formatting Considerations Avoid using: Multiple spaces (use either an indent or tab) Multiple spaces do not translate well into HTML code. “Copied and pasted” columns The columns of text will turn into one column in HTML code. Keep it simple Simple can be elegant—the more complex the formatting is, the more issues that may arise when copying and pasting. 28

Create an Instructional Unit

Practice Activity 4: Practice Create an Instructional Unit Find the Lesson that you created earlier in this session and link it to this unit Fast Alignments Choose a subject and grade range for your material, then quickly find and align the standards you want using our flexible standards search and browse tool. Your alignments will always show at the top of the page, no matter how far down you scroll. Expand the levels of standards until you find the standard you want. Subject and grade should default to what you enter in these fields on tab 1, but you can change them as needed to attach all relevant standards. Flexible content Type into a pre-configured material design template, add multiple attachments, insert a link to a website - one instructional material can contain all types of content! Enter content in a variety of ways. You can use a template, enter content directly into the text box, upload a file as an attachment, or link to a URL. Use the menus within the Content tab whenever possible. NOTE: You can only choose one content format for each individual material that you create. For example, if you choose district template, you cannot also choose File to upload a file. You can upload files as resources to be attached later. This HTML Editor is the same as the one that is available in Assessment Admin. Use the HTML Editor to: Change formatting Access the math/science equation editor Include images Insert a table Paste from Word (use keyboard short cuts) Linking materials Use the linked materials search window to find and select other instructional materials to link to your lesson. (Tip: sort your search results by rating to locate the highest rated materials for linking!) Remind the participants about the earlier chart that explained the structure of materials (what types are linked to others) You have the option of creating a new material (review this process as well) or linking an existing material. When linking, be sure that material is linked (at the top of the screen in the screenshot on the left you see the red text indicated there are no linked materials and the arrow is pointing to what it looks like when a material is attached) Instructional units – Attach lesson plans, resources, and assessments Lesson plans – Attach resources and assessments Can search in Public Materials Banks, My Materials, or create and link new materials; new resources become separate material 33

Why use Workspaces Use the student workspace for classroom projects or for portfolios that stay with the student over time. Student-created portfolios can be used to demonstrate a student's work, aptitude, experience, or growth in one or more of the student’s classes. Teachers assign students the task of creating end-of- term portfolios to showcase exemplary work across classes. Students add text and attach rich media to these portfolios to showcase their best work. The portfolios stay with the students from one school year to the next so that the students’ new teachers can benefit from viewing a showcase of the students’ work. Create Lesson Plan 42
