Before GD was founded, Japanese inventor filed for patent in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. When GD was founded, GD bought all the patents and pilot system from the inventor. And the pilot system was moved to Demo Lap in Korea. Japan patent was registered in Nov, 2005. and Korea patent was registered in Sept, 2006. From Sept, this, GD started production for Korea customer (BOE) And our mass production line is ready.

The Weak points of using the slim glass is low yield and high price. And Main system in TFT array should be modified to use less then 0.4mm substrate. Mechanical sliming method is lapping & polishing. Its’ weakness is lower thoughput, also, the slimed glass is broken easily due to mechanical stress. And Conventional chemical etching method is dipping the glass into HF based chemical bath. And its’ weakness are unstable unif and higher process temperature.

First one is dipping, and the 2nd one is horizontal chemical spray. And the last one is vertical spray method, which we are using. Horizontal inline shower method was not used for mass production because the productivity is low.

As I mentioned, dipping type shows unstable unif because it’s very hard to keep the same concentration of chemical in the bath. So, they used bubbling to improve the unif, but it cause glass breakage. So, they said they can’t slim larger than gen 4.5 glass by dipping type. On the other hand, spray type shows very good unif and we can slim below 0.1mm and since there is no limitation of bath size, we think we can slim up to gen 5.5 size.

Slimming Equipment (Etcher) This is our inline etching system. Glass is loaded into cassette and the cassette moves from front to to edge. All etching process, cleaning, etching, rinse, and dry process is finished at one time in this system. You can see our production system when you visit our company.
