www.coache.org What is COACHE? COACHE is the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education. It is a Harvard-based consortium made up of leaders at colleges, universities and systems . The goal of COACHE is to identify drivers for faculty retention and success. www.coache.org

COACH Survey Update COACHE survey is a four campus effort with UMKC participating last year.  UMC, UMSL, and Missouri S & T will participate this year. Initiative will be part of an on-going evaluation and survey will be administered again in approximately three years. Results will be used by the Faculty Recruitment and Retention Council in cooperation with the Provost’s office to identify and implement constructive policies and procedures. COACH Survey Update (cont’d) All COACHE modules are included in the survey.  There were no plans to customize for any other purpose. Power Stability Issues Caused by squirrels in the substation Engineer installed squirrel guards There may be damage to the transformers (if so, scheduled power outages will be arranged for repair/replacement) Facilities is looking at relocating substation (will be rebuilt and enclosed)

Division Updates

College of Arts, Sciences, and Business Diana Ahmad (History and Political Science) has been selected as a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education Military Science is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Army ROTC program Dr. Paula Lutz (former dean and professor) and Julie E. Maurer (History ‘96) were presented with Awards of Professional Distinction at December 19 Commencement ceremony Nicholas Leventis (Chemistry) has received funds totaling $69,648 from Tufts University for the project entitled, “SNM: Low-cost, Large-Scale Nanomanufacturing of Superinsulating Aerogels and Lightweight, Mechanically-Strong Aerogels”

College of Engineering and Computing Cast Iron Division of the American Foundry Society Division Council has selected Missouri S&T’s Materials Science and Engineering as winner of the Group Service Award. This award recognizes Missouri S&T for their years of dedication to AFS and the Cast Iron Division. The award will be presented as part of the AFS Recognition Luncheon on April 17 at the 120th Metalcasting Congress in Minneapolis, MN. SPIE 3D Best Paper Award Winner - Junjie Luo, Luke Gilbert, Douglas A. Bristow, Robert G. Landers, Jonathan T. Goldstein, Augustine M. Urbas, Edward C. Kinzel “Additive Manufacturing of Glass for Optical Applications,” SPIE LASE, Photonics West, San Francisco, CA, 9738-28, February 13th  2016. This paper was recognized for its innovative development of a laser process to produce transparent fused quartz structures by additive manufacturing techniques and thereby expanding the material base for 3D printing.
