Air Pollution

Air Pollution Major Pollutants Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) : Quality standerd For NO2 is 200mg/m3 (1 hour average) and 40mg/m3 (annual average). Sulphur dioxide (SO2) : the air quality standerd for SO2 is 20mg/m3 (24 hour average) and 500mg/m3 (10 minute average). Ground level ozone (O3): the air quality standerd for O3 is 100mg/m3 (8 hour average). Carbon monoxide (CO) : the air quality standerd for CO is 30mg/m3 (1 hour average) and 10mg/m3 (8 hour average).

Air Pollution Major Pollutants Others : Odours , radioactive pollutants , volatile organic compounds , carbon dioxide (CO2) , Chlorofurocarbons ( CFCs ), ammonia (NH3) , Peroxycetyl nitrate ( PAN ) , Present organic pollutants (POPs) Particulate matter (PM) : fine particles ( solid or liquid ) with diameter of 10 micrometers or less , dust storms , forest , grassland fires , & sea spray. All particles with 10 mm or less in diameter are denoted as PM 2.5

State of matter ( Solid – Liquid – Gas ) Flow rate TO design a certain system to control air pollution , We must have data about : State of matter ( Solid – Liquid – Gas ) Flow rate Concentration of solution Physical Properties of pollutants Chemical Properties of pollutants (Toxicity – Corrosion ….etc )

Control of gaseous pollutants : SO2 is Pumped in absorbers conation active charcoal NOx is Pumped to scrubber where Mg(OH)2 H2S is Pumped in absorbers tower while ethanol amine is falling down Control of particulate solids : its important to record air pressure , temperature , density , of particulate and the volume and these particulate solids , Can be controlled by : Air filter : to remove low concentration of particulate cyclones : to remove particulate Electrostatic precipitator : pumped in an apparatus with a voltage difference is 15000 - 80000
