Problem Air pollution in Utah is causing effects on health and it is endangering life’s. It is also effecting our economy.

Different types of pollutants in Utah Particulate matter is made of small dust and soot particles and is caused by smokestacks, and tailpipes. Volatile organic compounds are made of organic chemicals and have a high vapor pressure and is caused by gasoline, paints, cleaning supplies, and many others items. Sulfur oxides and sulfur dioxide is a colorless, reactive gas and is usually found in coal, oil, and power plants. Nitrogen oxides and nitrogen dioxide is a highly reactive gas and it forms from combustion, emissions from vehicles, power plants and off-road equipment. See site 5. http://www.ucair.org For more types of pollutants.

Causes of pollution Factories Car exhaust Fires Heating in homes Lawn mowers Snow blowers House hold products such as hair spray, carpet cleaner and air fresheners. See site number 5. http://www.ucair.org for more items.

Effects of pollution The children, the elderly, and those who have asthma, lung disease, heart disease, stroke, and pregnant women are at a risk on getting a shortness in breath and coughing more often because of air pollution. When you are outdoors or at work you can be exposed to air pollution. Poor air quality causes an increase to our costs in health care costs and the Utah’s federal highway funding is at risk because more then half of the state’s air pollution comes from vehicles. See site number 5. http://www.ucair.org more  effects

The scale of air quality. This is a color coded scale on how the air in your area is. It corresponds to the different levels of the pollution and what the air quality is. You can  find the current air quality at  https://deq.utah.gov/Divisions/daq/index.htm See site number 6. https://deq.utah.gov/Divisions/daq/index.htm for more information.

Facts about air pollution Air pollution is the deadliest form of pollution killing thousands of people each year. Almost 9.4% of all deaths are linked to air pollution. Air pollution limits the growth of the lungs in children which makes their lungs harder to breath when they get older. The united states is the second largest producer of carbon dioxide. See site 4. http://www.conserve-energy-future.com/various-pollution-facts.php for more facts.

Governing Entity We should join UTAHS GOVERNMENT And stop air pollution in Utah.

Call to action we should go to the state’s government to see if we can get laws changes about how much pollution can be released by the factories. in Utah and we could not use as much heat in winter because that causes more pollution in the air. We can reduce how much we use are cars and lawn mowers so that the air is not as polluted. We can also use public transportation, walk and ride bicycles more. We can try to be idle-free though out the year.
