EDU 225: Instructional Technology Week 10 Tracy Vasquez

Last week We discussed the process of assessment We learned about the types of assessment We looked at some technology for assessment We learned about Norman Webb’s Depth of Knowledge We discussed how technology is used to facilitate assessment

Prayer (you are welcome to join or take a mental break) Prayer requests? Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.

Technology to Enhance Assessment: Data in the Classroom (Weeks 9 and 10) Explain how technology can facilitate and enhance the continuous effort to assess instruction and measure student learning in a formative manner. Describe how technology can facilitate and enhance the continuous effort to assess instruction and measure student learning in a summative manner.

Assessment Know Want to Know Learned

Define the purpose of assessment Diagnostic Assessment: Determines, prior to instruction, each student’s strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills. Establishing these permits the instructor to remediate students and adjust the curriculum to meet each pupil’s unique needs. Formative Assessment: Reflects the needs and progress of students. Usually not graded, these provide information to guide teachers as they make instructional decisions to modify and adjust teaching practices. Summative Assessment: Evaluates student learning at the end of a term, chapter, semester, or year. High-stakes testing is also a form of Summative assessment. (Swearington, 2002)
