All pupils will sit the SATs tests in: English reading English grammar, punctuation and spelling Mathematics
It will include written work in History, Geography, Science and RE. There will not be a writing test, as writing will be teacher assessed. The standard awarded will be based on the independent work that the children have produced throughout the year, particularly the latter part of the year. It will include written work in History, Geography, Science and RE. The writing assessment is moderated by staff at Datchet St Mary's and by RBWM staff.
The tests will take place in the hall and the ICT suite. For some tests, certain children are allowed readers and the school will decide who has a reader closer to the tests. If a child has a reader, the reader will be a familiar staff member.
All necessary equipment for the tests will be provided by the school.

Tests are sent away to be marked by the Standards and Testing Agency. The results are then sent back to the school and will be reported to parents. This usually happens in July.
What will my child be tested on in each subject?
For the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling test the Children will need to know: *grammatical terms/word classes (nouns, prepositions, connectives, pronouns, etc) *features of sentences (statements, questions, commands) *simple, compound and complex sentences (clauses, phrases, subordinating connectives) *Standard English (I and me, subject-verb agreement) *formal/informal language (contractions, eg can't, doesn't) * verb tenses (past tense, present tense, modals, * matching prefixes to the right words ( for example: prefixes -re, -im, -il which ones matches to do, legal and possible?) * turning a verb into an adjective (for example: use the verb create to make an adjective to go in this sentence: the artist was very ______.) * using a word as a verb and a noun (for example: use cover as a noun in a sentence. Use cover as a verb in a sentence). *synonyms (words with similar meaning) and antonyms (words with opposite meaning)
Vocabulary (word meanings, prefixes and suffixes, singular and plural) Punctuation (capital letters, full stops, question marks, inverted commas, commas for lists and to mark clauses, apostrophes, colons )
Spelling (application of spelling conventions, knowledge of spelling patterns, meaning of common prefixes, use of suffixes, relevance of word families)
There will be different types of question: Identify: tick or circle the correct answer Match: draw lines to match two elements Correct: rewrite or correct a sentence Find/write: label language or write an example Explain: use terminology to explain grammar

What will be tested? The children will be tested on their understanding of mathematics through word problems. The areas that will be assessed are: Number, Measurement, Geometry, Statistics, Ratio, Algebra The biggest focus is on: Number. (Place value, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, Dividing, Fractions, Rounding numbers, Solving problems)
How can you help your child with maths at home? Encourage your child to do their homework and discuss what they have been doing in class. Encourage your child to consolidate their multiplication tables and their division facts up to 12 x 12. Ask your child to help in the measuring out when you are cooking at home. Take your child shopping and ask them to add 3 or 4 items in their head and ask them how much change they think they will get from £5 or £10. Practise telling the time and problems eg How many minutes until dinner Do small but frequent revision, on websites as well as from the revision guides.

How can parents support their children? * Encourage children to complete the revision books that have been provided by the school * Encourage children to use the websites to revise * Listen to your child read every night and discuss reading books, newspaper and magazine articles, non fiction books and any other texts that they, or you, are reading.
* Explain that we are all different and that comparisons of achievement should not be made; what is important is that each child works as hard as they can to fulfil his/her own potential. * We will be offering a light breakfast (cereal, juice, croissants) this year if you would like your children to join us. The breakfast club will run from 8.30am in the classroom. * Ensure that children eat breakfast before school and have a mid-morning snack at break time, if they wish, on test days. * Ensure that the children have sufficient sleep before the tests!
