Reason to Believe #7 Acts (3:11-26)

Introduction The failure of linking the Good News with healing by the Third Wave of the Pentecostal tradition

First Wave – Pentecostal Church (AOG) Second Wave – Charismatic Church Third Wave – Signs and wonders Word of Faith (Prosperity Gospel) Return to the historic faith (Alpha Course)

The failure of not linking Good News with healing in the historic tradition

Jesus and disciples clearly presented the Good News together with healing The resurrection is about the healing of body and soul, that is the hope we present, not a bodiless salvation God continues to heal miraculously in our midst

5 Observations concerning the Good News that Heals

Peter utilizes the healing of the lame man to explain the Good News of Jesus 11 While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade. 12 When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus.

There was no mass offer of miraculous healing Miraculous healing was not a promise to be claimed

The Good News ties pain and death to sin, and does not shy away from declaring the need for repentance from sin

You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. 14 You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. 15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead.

19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.

Repentance  Forgiveness of sin  Deliverance from sin which brings pain and death

The Good News when received will produce “times of refreshing” and God “may send the Messiah – even Jesus.”

19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.

Review 5 Observations Peter utilizes the healing of the lame man to explain the Good News of Jesus There was no mass offer of miraculous healing Miraculous healing was not a promise to be claimed

Review 5 Observations The Good News calls us to repent from sin The Good News when received brings “times of refreshing” / total healing at the resurrection

4 Steps to becoming God’s agent of the Good News that heals

Reach people at their point of need for healing of body and of soul. Always reach out in the Name of Jesus. Jesus has come to heal your body and soul.

Pray for those who need healing, as an individual and as a group. Introduce the person to the group that is praying for them

conclusion Core Values – B A R E Biblical. Reconnecting Good News and healing Authentic Relevant Effective

Conclusion Resurrection of Jesus is the turning point of all history. From degeneration to regeneration. The Good News is our total deliverance of body and soul, now and when God’s kingdom come.

Conclusion Are you missing out on healing? The Good News we declare is the hope of the resurrection when there is total healing. Your own healing comes full circle only when you become a healer – Peter the wounded healer.

Healing of body and soul gives the unbelieving reason to believe, and strengthens the faith of the believing.
