What about those STUDENT loans? Federal Direct student educational loans help many families pay for the cost of a college education. The loan funds are borrowed through the federal government and must be repaid with interest When? 6 months after graduation Repayment amounts are calculated based on the total amount borrowed during the years in school There are many repayment plans designed to help borrowers with varying abilities to repay You can monitor how much you are borrowing each year through National Student Loan Data System ---- www.nslds.gov and/or your myLongwood portal.

How do I apply for these student loans? We’ve outlined the entire process on our website in text and video format. We also provided step-by-step instructions in the financial aid package that was mailed to you. Accept the loans on the myLongwood Portal Go to www.studentloans.gov Complete Entrance Counseling Complete the Master Promissory Note

Parent PLUS loan process Complete at www.studentloans.gov Parents must ‘Apply for a Direct PLUS Loan’ EACH year. Sign the Master Promissory Note (MPN) once Parents will need their FSA ID and password to complete the process!

Longwood Offers Payment Plans The monthly payment plan is administered by the Office of Student Accounts. The terms are easy! Enrollment opens mid-July for fall, late November for spring Sign up online through the myLongwood Portal or authorized user link $50 participation fee each semester Semester payments are made in 4 installments, due on the 1st of each month (August-November for fall, December- March for spring), via ACH draft.

How does Work Study work? Federal Work Study Must meet need requirements Most earn a max of $2,000 Must indicate on FAFSA that student is interested in work study Payment is made directly to the student, NOT tuition Freshmen work in D-Hall Other opportunities available on campus for upperclassmen College Work Study Available for students who are not eligible for federal work study Limited funding Contact University Career Services for information.

For the Future – Maintaining Your Aid: Academic Requirements Students must be maintaining satisfactory progress towards their degree requirements in order to be eligible for financial aid. We check progress after every spring semester. A copy of the SAP policy is available on our webpage. SAP vs. Academic Policy Withdrawing from classes affects future as well as current financial aid See Terms and Conditions on our website for more details. To be eligible for aid, students must: Have at least a 2.000 CGPA Freshmen=1.800 CGPA Have a 75% completion rate Earned Credits /Attempted Credits Not have exceeded 180 attempted credit hours For undergraduates

Are there scholarships available? Scholarships are available through most major departments.  Check with your department in December/January concerning their application process. The application for scholarships awarded by the Financial Aid Office is available on our webpage Dec. 1st and is due by Mar. 1. Also check: The Longwood Alumni Association Outside sources such as: Civic Groups Banks/Credit Unions Places of worship

Is Financial Aid available for Summer School? Yes, aid is awarded based upon remaining eligibility for the previous academic year. We require a separate summer school application, usually due around the first week of May. This form is available on the web and in the office the day summer school registration opens Grant funding for summer school is limited and is awarded on a first-come first- served basis (except Pell). If you make changes to your summer schedule after you fill out the form, there could be delays in processing your aid so please let us know as soon as possible after you make a change!

The Financial Aid Process *Reminders* The process can begin as early as October 1, 2017 for the next school year! The FAFSA should be filed by our priority date* to ensure eligibility for grants and scholarships Check your Longwood University email regularly to get information from us about what you need to do. You can accept/decline/review the financial aid offered to you online on the myLongwood Portal. In most cases, students will be considered dependent on their parents until the age of 24, regardless of the parents’ tax filing status. *Stay tuned for more information about our priority filing date for the 2018-19 year*
