Executive Summary Sit Analysis and Op Plan v5 6.13.06 Grant Writing Executive Summary Sit Analysis and Op Plan v5 6.13.06 Jason Amidon Joe Rohl Jamie Johnholtz Strengths Weaknesses Diversified revenue stream – Government, Corporate, Foundation Track record of success in Government grants Proven execution process Ability to plan and generate a pipeline of revenue Strong value proposition as under-funded District Applies well to capital outlay items / technology / etc. Provides non-tax revenue when soliciting private / corporate sources Gives potential for growth / change in programs – services Independent of Levy politics Requires dedicated employee Need to establish system for developing / coordinating responses Government grants are high work low success rate Non-government grants will require special skill set Increased budget pressures at Federal level may impact availability Need to re-apply annually in many cases Not the best source of funding for curriculum – can be volatile May need time from District leaders to execute Corporate Demographics – income and diversity may limit our eligible status Opportunities Threats Can establish relationships with local Corporations and Foundations Non-government grant sources have not been pursued historically Vast majority of grant writing has been for federal / state grants Have not had a district wide organized effort Potential for improved results Increased amount of application possible Competition with private sector who has weaker needs For District leaders to become engaged in high return activity Benchmarks and best practices are replicatable / applicable Information from district wide organized effort benefits other budget activity Competition with neighbor districts with similar needs reduces wins Federal and state grants will be in higher demand / less available Funding initial startup of grant writing engine – a leap of faith Developing an accurate system of turning business needs into grants Competition with private sector who is better funded Limited budgets for matching funds
