Student Response Technologies Audience Response Systems (ARS)

Applications for Student Response Systems Engage students in real time Quizzes Polls Other interactions and feedback Data analytics We will demonstrate on PollEverywhere and Socrative.

Poll Everywhere

Real Time Polling with Poll Everywhere Engage your students with a ubiquitous device– a smart phone! Also works with desktops, tablets and laptops Instant audience feedback Results appear live on the display Can be used for quizzes, discussing the results, and motivating discussions Hear from all your students in the time it would ordinarily take to hear from just one. Student participation can be anonymous, leads to greater inclusion. Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Poll Everywhere: My Experience Incorporated 200 CPA Exam type questions into the curriculum Poll Everywhere integrates easily with Powerpoint, Google, and Keynote slides Demonstration (Lesson #4) Questions reappear on exams Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Types of Poll Activities Multiple Choice Polls The audience chooses from the response options you provide (for example a choice of either true or false.) You can also upload images to serve as response options. Multiple choice polls accept both text message responses and web responses. Paid feature: With a paid plan you can designate the correct response to a multiple choice question. Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Application of Multiple Choice Poll Adjust lessons in the moment, based on understanding, interest, or knowledge retention, with live polling… Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Types of Poll Activities Word Cloud Word aggregation / clustering. The audience responds freely, with anything they wish. You can use moderation to manage responses before they are shown publicly. This activity allows both text message responses and web responses. Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Types of Poll Activities Q&A The audience submits ideas or questions. Then they can anonymously upvote or downvote all other responses, so the best rise to the top quickly. This activity only allows web responses. Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Application of Q&A Poll It’s frustrating when you ask “Any questions?” at the end of class and hear silence… Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Types of Poll Activities Rank Order Participants rank the response options you provide. The results will then show as an overall rank of the on a bar or column graph. This activity only allows web responses.  Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Types of Poll Activities Clickable images The audience clicks anywhere on an image to vote. You can even specify regions to count clicks in specific areas. This activity only allows web responses. Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Types of Poll Activities Open-ended questions The audience responds freely, with anything they wish. Open-ended responses can be displayed three ways: a ticker, text wall, or cluster. You can use moderation to manage responses before they are shown publicly. This activity allows both text message responses and web responses. Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Application of Open Ended Questions Make a prediction. How will the main character react to this problem? What will happen when oxygen is introduced to the compound? What number will come next in this series? Summarize Distill complex topics into 6 words.

Types of Poll Activities Surveys Surveys allow you to ask your participants multiple questions at once. Everyone can answer the questions privately at their own pace. Surveys are great for quizzes, pre- and post-training assessments, and questionnaires. Much of this presentation was extracted from https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/presenter/getting-started

Fees and Features Paid feature: With a paid plan you can designate the correct response to a multiple choice question.

Poll Everywhere - Student Feedback What do you like best about this course?: I like the poll everywhere app. The app helps as a study guide and keeps you involved during class. The weekly quiz forces you to look over the material each week.  I like how he incorporated CPA exam questions into every class. This was very helpful to get an idea of the language and type of questions I will see on the CPA exam. I also enjoyed doing research on a fraud case. The in class poll questions keep my interest. I have learned so much and the course has helped me choose what i actually want to do with my career (be an auditor) Poll Everywhere questions helped my gain exposure and understanding to how the questions would be formatted on the CPA. Also giving us the final and midterms from the previous classes helps cut down on study time and understanding the material better.  the flip grids I really liked how the professor is prepared for the class and presents the information well. Really like the online flip-grid discussion and the poll everywhere questions during the presentations.  It was interesting I was introduced to some new technology with the polls and adobe spark and the recording of discussion questions. It took me out of my comfort zone and I was pleasantly surprised.
