PPE Safety Glasses or Shield Heavy Leather Gloves Appropriate Footwear

RISKS Eye injuries Entanglement Cuts and abrasions Burns Small projectiles

BEFORE STARTING Check the grinder disk for any flaws before using Ensure that the grinder disk is secured and seated properly on the arbor

BEFORE STARTING Check the power cord for damage Make sure the switch is ‘OFF” before plugging it in Check the immediate area for any fire hazards

BEFORE STARTING Position a grinding / welding screen to protect others Position yourself out of the spark path whenever possible

TO SAFELY USE Grip the grinder solidly with two hands (beware of the torque). Make sure you have a solid stance before starting to grind.

TO SAFELY USE Make sure you are at least 6 meters (20 feet) away from other workers. Aim the sparks towards the floor and away from others.

TO SAFELY USE Start the grinder off the work. Do not allow the edge of the disc to touch the edge of the stock Grind with a stroking motion

TO SAFELY USE Hold the grinder on a slight angle when grinding so only the outer edges of the disk is contacting the work

TO SAFELY USE When finished, raise the grinder off the work and allow it to stop on its own. If the grinder is dropped, it must be inspected by the teacher before being used again.

WHEN FINISHED Loosely wrap cord around grinder and return to proper storage location Clean up grinding dust with a bench brush and broom

BEWARE FRESHLY GROUND SURFACES WILL BE HOT TO THE TOUCH AND EDGES MAY BE SHARP
