Be prepared for class. 2. Treat others the way you wish to be treated. 3. Use class time for educational purposes. 4 .Demonstrate integrity by taking responsibility for one’s actions. 5. Follow school/class rules and procedures, and respectfully participate in class. Drink/Food Policy: Drinking water is allowed and encouraged for overall health. Eating food in class will be decided by the teacher based on respect. 1. Use the restroom during passing periods. 2. Include first and last names, date, class period, and assignment on work. 3. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. 4. Keep the entire year’s worth of assignments, handouts, tests/quizzes, etc. in a folder. 20% 20% 30% 30% 20% Assessments Projects VOCABULARY Practice Any questions a student may have in regards to their grade, work returned, assignments due, or their performance in class, may be discussed before or after school, during lunch, or during Ms. Stahl’s prep hour. Class time is for instructional purposes. Parents and students are strongly encouraged to check StudentView or ParentView on a weekly basis for EVERY class. Consequences Responsibility 1. Illegible work: will be returned to the student for resubmission. 2. Disruptive Behavior: that detracts from the overall learning environment will result in the following: verbal warning, seating change, a “teacher-student” talk, lunch/after school assistance, and administrative involvement. 3. Cheating: If caught cheating, students will receive a zero on the exam and disciplinary action will be taken as stated in the student handbook.

Sara R. Stahl Absentee POLICY Incomplete / LATE WORK 8 English Sara R. Stahl 2017-2018 Absentee POLICY Incomplete / LATE WORK 2016-2017 * YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. (Life continued to exist in your absence.) * It is the student’s responsibility to check the class folder for missing assignments and meet with the teacher at lunch or after school if assistance is needed to complete the assignment. * A student has as many days was missed to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz was administered within a week the student returns, the quiz must be made up prior to the next vocabulary test. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. * My expectation is that ALL assignments be completed to a level of proficiency (80% or higher) and turned in on time. If an assignment is turned in, but proficiency is not demonstrated, the assignment will be returned to the student and the work must be completed / redone until proficiency is achieved. The assignment will not receive a grade until proficiency is earned. (A ZERO in the grade book = ZERO for the skill.) * Students who do not have an assignment completed by the due date will be expected to attend The Learning Center (TLC) after school. * Printer and Internet issues are not an excuse for late work. Technology/ELECTRONICS Cell phones are a great resource, but they are also a great distraction. There will be times when I will allow cellphones to be used during class, such as independent study, but I will always announce it. Otherwise, cellphones and electronic devices SHOULD BE PUT AWAY when class is in session. Thank you. Plagiarism READing Required Reading, 8th The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank (1st semester) The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton (2nd semester) Suggested Reading Honors, 8th The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupery The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien Animal Farm, by George Orwell Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. _____________CUT & RETURN__________________________________________________ By signing below, I have read and understand class expectations for Ms. Stahl’s English class and have shared this information with an adult family member.
