WLTP Phase 2 Durability Task Force Update The Hague, 06 October 2016 16th WLTP IWG meeting European Commission - DG GROW.C4

Index Background Discussion on the activity to be carried out DTF, how to proceed Battery durability, how to proceed Conclusion

Background (1) The WLTP IWG received the mandate to develop durability requirements not only for conventional and electrified vehicles as regards to pollutant emissions, but also for the assessment of the REESS deterioration with mileage and time. Initial proposal was that the Durability Task Force (DTF) would take charge of the pollutant emissions part, while the EV subgroup lead the REESS deterioration aspects.

Background (2) The objective, mandate and ToR of the Durability TF were presented at the 14th WLTP IWG meeting of April 2016in Paris. At the 15th WLTP IWG meeting of June the Commission representative reported that, due to other urgent commitments, the involvement in the WLTP IWG work needed to be put in stand-by until at least after the summer break. In the meantime no comment has been received by the Commission on the objective/mandate/ToR.

Background (3) The following people have volunteered to become member of the Durability TF: Claudia Walawski Matthias Naegeli Cecile Favre Dirk Bosteels Iddo Riemersma Christoph Lueginger Of course it is still possible to join the TF.

Discussion on the DTF Gasoline vehicles Whole vehicle durability test (SRC or new cycle?) (Accelerated) bench ageing durability test (BAT approach still valid for PFI): Thermal ageing Chemical poisoning (Accelerated) bench ageing durability test for GDI (GPF + DeNOx): BAD approach (like diesel vehicles)?

Discussion on the DTF Diesel vehicles Whole vehicle durability test (SRC or new cycle?) (Accelerated) bench ageing durability test with BAD approach to be revised: Developed to cover DPF and/or DeNOx regeneration, not fully validated It does not cover the thermal and chemical ageing during two regeneration episodes in real life It does not cover SCR systems The issue of EGR durability

Discussion on the DTF Participation First meeting Distribution of tasks

Discussion on the DTF Revised timetable for DTF – two scenarios are foreseen: No validation needed (work and draft text within end of 2017) Validation needed (6 additional months)

Discussion on battery durability

Conclusions
