IT-services http://www.uio.no/english/services/

Contact information for Student-IT at the Faculty of Humanities: student-it@hf.uio.no +47 228 57 425 Sophus Bugges hus 2nd floor . Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. 11. april 2011 Ny Powerpoint mal 2011

User name, password and user administration In order to use the IT-services at the University of Oslo you need a username and a password. You receive your username and password shortly after you have arrived on campus in Norway. If you do not receive this information, you can contact Student-IT to have a username and a password issued. Remember to bring photo identification of some kind (passport, driver’s license, student card etc.).

A functioning username and password is needed for delivering your exam, reading you student e-mail where important information is issued, using the available computers at campus, accessing the wireless network etc. 11. april 2011 Ny Powerpoint mal 2011

Connecting to the UiO network The wireless network at UiO At UiO we use the wireless network eduroam. Log on by entering username@uio.no and your password. This will grant you access to the network at campus, and also on some airports and other Universities 11. april 2011 Ny Powerpoint mal 2011

Using your UiO e-mail UiO has an online based e-mail client called Outlook Web Access. You can log on at mail.uio.no. It is a student obligation to read your e-mail from UiO (or you may miss out on important information). Though we do not recommend it, you can set up forwarding to your other e-mail address if this is what you prefer

Printing Computers at campus There are smaller computer labs connected to most departments spread across campus. The best facilities are however in Sophus Bugges . You will find a designated computer lab on the ground floor, and there are also a lot of desks with computers in the library on the 2nd floor. Paying for prints At the beginning of each semester each student has a quota of 100 NOK at their disposal. Printing a page costs 0.8 NOK, to a total of 125 pages. A page that has both sides printed, will cost the same as if only one side has been printed. When you suspect that you are running low on prints, you should refill before you run out completely. 11. april 2011 Ny Powerpoint mal 2011

Course-specific information and assignment delivery is the main use of this service. You can log on with your username and password at fronter.com/uio. 11. april 2011 Ny Powerpoint mal 2011

Computer, files and software Microsoft Office 365 All students can use the Office 365-package for free, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and more. The online-version is available through a web-browser from any computer. You can also install the programs on your personal laptop or other devices like a phone or a tablet. Visit uio.no/office for more information. 11. april 2011 Ny Powerpoint mal 2011

Digital exam Some courses have written exams which are conducted on computers. Either they can be stationary PCs offered by the university, or you may have to bring your own laptop. If you need to bring your own there are certain criterias to the hardware and software, and Student-IT can help you with the configuration and determining if your laptop is valid. You will get sufficient information during the semester about what kind of exam you are getting, please read the semester webpages for your courses for more information
