God, we are a thirsty and hungry people. Our souls are malnourished for we have spent the currency of our time and attention on those things that are not bread, those things that will not feed our soul.

Forgive us, God, for gorging ourselves on this world and sipping lightly from Your fountain. This evening, Ash Wednesday, we come to drink deeply.

And we come to set ourselves apart in a new way for the next 40 days, so that we might connect with You. We ask for Your blessing for us tonight.

God, please open up for us a special season of fellowship with You God, please open up for us a special season of fellowship with You. In the name of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Let it be so.

Sins against Our Neighbor Accept our repentance, Lord, for the wrongs we have done: for our blindness to human need and suffering, and our indifference to injustice and cruelty, [Accept our repentance, O Lord.]
