Why did this work in the past? Loyalty to the Emperor: Francis Joseph was personally very popular throughout the empire. However! His nephew The Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, the heir to the thrown, and his wife Sophie were widely disliked and were generally treated poorly by the citizens of Austria-Hungary This eventually lead to the assignation of Franz Ferdinand… but more on that later! Many alliances had been signed by countries between the years 1879 and 1914 Important note: This meant the countries involved had no option but to declare war if one of their allies declared war or were attacked A is for Alliances

And lastly… N is for Nationalism An extreme feeling that people have of being loyal to and proud of their country often with the belief that it is better and more important than other countries And lastly… N is for Nationalism
