Karen Harrowing – Senior Associate I am passionate about patient safety and improvement, through medicines optimisation and wider healthcare interventions. My motivation comes from engaging with people who want to ‘build in’ quality for effective and sustainable outcomes. I combine my experience of practice and knowledge of healthcare regulation to help people develop improvement strategies from ‘Board to Ward’, whether in the public, private or charitable sector. Background 1980-1991: Pharmacy training and development, initially as a Technician and then as Pharmacist within various NHS Hospital providers. 1991 – 2001: Pharmacy management roles in 4 NHS Hospital providers, including acute / community / mental health. Then Quality Manager at Bath ASU, a MHRA licensed Homecare provider. 2001 – 2012: Chief Pharmacist and latterly Director of Quality Systems in Nuffield Health, previously NHS Contract Manager, Head of Clinical Support (UK’s largest not-for-profit healthcare organisation). 2015 – current: Quality Systems and Pharmacy Consulting / CQC Specialist Advisor / NED Skills Professional Experience Good Governance and Quality Management Systems (Lead Auditor ISO9001) Pharmacy service design / re-design / improvement Responding to consultations on new Regulations and Standards in Healthcare Effectively implementing new Regulation Conference and workshop design and facilitation Director of Quality Systems – included national accountability for quality as provider CQC NI Expert Advisor on various committees including CQC, DH and Royal Pharmaceutical Society Superintendent Pharmacist role Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Recently appointed to GPhC Statutory Committees Outsourcing programmes pharmacy / medical device management at national level
