BDSC ONLINE Options for 2018

ONLINE SELECTIONS All students in 2017 will make their options choices online through the Student and/or Primary-Parent portal. Course Selection will open up on Tuesday 22nd August (week 5) and remain open for option choices till Monday 28th August (week 6).

WEBPORTAL Both logins (student and parents) will have access to the Course Selection area in the webportal. Options can be altered throughout the week. The final selection will not be officially “saved” until Monday 28th August. We strongly suggest parents and students take this time to discuss the possible options for next year.

WHAT TO CHOOSE: Students will select their option choices in priority order. It is most important to choose carefully, although there is a possibility to change options later in the year and at the beginning of next year. If any options have a special note they will appear on the right hand side i.e. those options that can not be taken together

WHAT TO CHOOSE: Even if the student has no intention of returning to BDSC in 2018, we ask for them to choose options in the off-chance of returning.

2018 OPTION BOOKLETS: Information regarding the options can be found on the school website  http://www.bdsc.school.nz/parents/learning-at-bdsc- parents/option-information-parents as well as Office365. It is strongly suggested that both student and parents read option books carefully.

2018 LEVEL 1-3 INFORMATION BOOK This information book contains all relevant information about NZQA and can be found on the school website  http://www.bdsc.school.n z/parents/learning-at-bdsc- parents/option-information- parents as well as Office365. It is strongly suggested that both Senior students and parents read this book carefully.

HAVE QUESTIONS? More information can be obtained from your current teachers, the required Head of the Learning Area, the Careers Advisor, as well as the Admin tutor and Whanau Leader. The information contained in this powerpoint has been emailed to parents.

GENERAL INFO: HIGHER LEVELS Consider carefully these two questions: (a) What is the highest level you hope to reach at school? (b) What subjects are you likely to take at that level? Then work backwards to the lower levels to choose your options. Remember that ability, interest and future usefulness are important reasons for your choices. All students should read the senior option booklets and scan the prerequisites for the senior subjects they may wish to study in the future. The Level 1, 2 and 3 option booklets can be accessed on Office 365 or the BDSC website. It is important to note that many Visual and Performing Art, Technology and Languages courses require students to have taken the course in the previous year. Students must plan their courses to ensure that they meet all the prerequisites.

GENERAL INFO: CLASS SIZES Although every effort will be made to provide the subjects chosen, no guarantee can be given that all will be possible. Because of the need to have classes of a certain size, some students may be asked to change options. Similarly if not enough students choose a particular option it may be cancelled.
