International Admissions FAQs Admissions Questions International Admissions FAQs When will OISS begin processing my new international student’s packet? 2) What is needed for a complete international admissions packet? 3) I just sent the student admission packet to GPS. Is that enough? 4) How long will it take for my student to get his/her I-20? How is it sent? 5) English language proficiency: What works as justification/proof for the language proficiency requirement? (graduate vs. undergraduates) Is there English support once they get here? Should this be included in the offer letter?

Does it need to be in English? 9) What do I do if one of my new students gets stuck with visa delays or security checks? 10) What if we want to bring in a student to begin doing research in the summer ?

“Inviting a New Scholar” FAQs Scholar Questions 1) The professor wants this scholar to arrive next week, what is the possibility to rush his/her DS-2019 without all the required documents, e.g. the offer letter from the dean’s office? 2) The scholar cannot arrive on time, what should we do to amend his DS-2019? 3) The scholar wants to come to Rice but he/she is now sponsored by another university, how do we transfer him/her to come here? 4) The professor wants this scholar to come for short term visit, but the funding does not meet the $2000 per month requirement. Can we make it up with a housing provision by the professor? Is there anyway to substitute housing, transportation, to decrease the $2000 monthly amount required of J scholars? 5) Our J scholar is stuck at the visa application process due to a security check, how can Rice/OISS help to expedite the visa process?

“Inviting a New Scholar” FAQs Scholar Questions 6) Do all student interns need to submit the additional paperwork, like the addendum A, B and DS-7002? Where do I find these documents? Do you have samples of these documents for departments to follow? 7) We do not have the answers to questions of this prospective J scholar, do you mind answering his/her immigration questions? 8) How can we transfer a J scholar to Rice and change his/her status to H-1B? 9) We have to hire this scholar and have submitted the “Request for DS-2019 Form”, but the scholar wants to come on H status and the professor has no funding for the legal fees. How can we help this scholar? 10) Do you provide assistance in finding housing for our incoming J scholars?
