Welcome to ISD New Hire Academy

ISD Mission Our students will be prepared for and eager to accept the academic, occupational, personal, and practical challenges of life in a dynamic global environment.

Meaningful and Rigorous Curriculum and Instruction In order to meet the mission of the district and make reasonable progress towards achieving the Board ENDS we must have quality teaching with meaningful and rigorous curriculum that is engaging to students. Mentoring, supporting, supervising and evaluating staff as the critical component of creating the best overall educational experience possible for our students Quality Professional Development Support for struggling students and staff members

Professional Development Any time you participate in a district sponsored meeting or training, there will be an attendance sheet. Always sign in!! These sign in sheets are used to verify your hours of attendance & pay you, if pay is eligible. For New Hire Academy, your sign in sheets will be ORANGE all week. Just as in your teaching day you are not paid for lunch or union meetings

Pay for these five days You will be paid for the hours you attend New Hire Academy. $1250 is available, to be paid at the end of the month. Attendance sheets will determine the amount of pay, so be sure to sign in! Show sample. If they attend additional meetings this summer, there will be new sheets there.

Professional Development in the Issaquah School District Ongoing opportunities for Professional Development and Clock Hours ISD will pay each 1.0 FTE staff up to 20 hours for participating in PD during the 2015-2016 school year (this is separate from the hours you are submitting for NTA Monday & Tues this week) Yearlong NTA is PDP eligible Teaching & Learning conference is PDP eligible PD Place – Program used for posting and tracking all district professional development Accessible from ISD home page Professional Development On PD place Demonstrate: 1. register for a class – use NTA Yearlong classes as example 2. search for classes 3. pay for clock hours 4. get course transcript

Clock Hour Description Clock hours are documentation of professional development training for educators offered by OSPI-approved providers such as school districts.  One clock hour represents one hour of class time.   Clock hours can be used for salary placement and salary advancement.  - A course must be at least 3 clock hours in order to be applicable for salary placement.  -Ten clock hours equals 1 quarter credit.  (6 clock hours are posted as 0.6 credits, 12 clock hours as 1.2 credits, etc.) This wording is provided directly by Betsy – please don’t change it….

Function of Clock Hours Required for those with a Continuing teaching certificate Valid for 5 years 150 clock hours or 15 credits Not required for those on a Residency or Professional Certificate – you have different renewal requirements May qualify for salary advancement Each teacher is responsible for keeping and submitting a running record of clock hours earned to HR: class title, class provider, date and number of clock hours OSPI Teacher Certification Information

Clock Hours Cost On top of pay, you are eligible for clock hours. In registering for classes clock hours are optional. You may sign up for the class, but not pay for clock hours. If you want the clock hours, you pay $5 on PD place. All courses in Issaquah are a $5 fee for clock hours regardless of the number of hours. You may for clock hours at any time.

Other “Pots” of money These are negotiated items in the CBA Tech Training: (6) hours a year at per diem rate to participate in district approved training Web Presence: (25) hours paid at the per diem rate to maintain a web presence; form signed in December and May Professional Growth and Incentive Fund (PGIF): $2150 Can be tuition reimbursement, 30 hours of offsite work, materials/supplies reimbursement. These are not automatic earnings. 
