AtD Online Student Success Initiatives

Online Learning Committee The OLC has created a recommendation for Best Practices for Online Courses. A. The Online Learning Committee recommends that the Best Practices (14 items) be used as guidelines in the development of online courses. B. The Online Learning Committee recommends that demonstration examples of these Best Practices be made available for faculty within the online learning management environment and in an online reference area.

Online Learning Committee The OLC is designing the required orientation (competencies and objectives) for students who are considering enrolling in an online course. The orientation will include these skills and more: Basic computer skills An understanding of time requirements and time management skills Reading and writing skills (be able to communicate through reading and writing)

Online Learning Committee and the Center for Learning and Teaching Online learning skills Ability to use the tools in the online management system The content of the Online Orientation will be designed by the OLC. The CLT will actually create the Online Orientation.

Online Initiatives—CLT and IITS Center for Learning and Teaching Faculty training through the CLT Improve tutoring and lab assistance services with training and increased budget for specific online tutors and SI’s (CLT & AtD Funding) Broaden the access to the services we provide online students by including communication channels such as phone, email, chat, and other emerging technologies. This will include help from IITS and the CLT.

Other Areas with Online Services IITS did a pilot of integrating Datatel and ANGEL in publishing the final grades Other topics being discussed— Monitor and analyze online student withdrawals (Admissions and Records?) Developing an efficient online portal (CLT and IITS) Provide 24/7 online tech support (CLT) Improve ANGEL server performance (IITS) More efficient Datatel integration (IITS)
