Hello Friends. Welcome to India. I am going to tell you about Mother Teresa and her job.

Early life I want to be a nun. When Mother Teresa was young, she wanted to be a missionary. She decided to join the Sisters of Loretto, the Irish nuns. They worked in India. At first she was given training in Dublin. Then She was sent to India.

Working as a teacher In Calcutta Mother Teresa became a teacher. She taught history and geography at St. Mary’s High School.

Divine call The sick and poor people of Calcutta lived in slums. Mother Teresa saw the poverty and was very sad. In 1946 she fell ill and was sent to the hills to recover from her illness. On her way she heard a divine call to take care of sick and homeless people.

HeLpInG pEoPlE She left St. Mary’s High School in 1948 and she started her work among sick and poor in the slums. She studied basic medicine and she started nursing sick and dying people. She also was the teacher for the poorest children.

Missionary of Charity In 1949 some of her students joined her to help with her work for homeless. They rented a room and took care of sick and dying people. In 1950 Mother Teresa formed her first group and called it the Missionary of Charity.

The home of Pure Heart In 1952 she opened a home for the dying people. Later it was called Nirmal Hriday (in English: the hope of pure heart). She and her nun friends gave the medicine and took care of sick people, but most of all they played for them.

In Africa Mother Teresa wanted to help more and more people. One day she went to Africa to feed hungry people.

Nobel Prize In 1979 Mother Teresa was awarded with a Nobel Prize. She got it for her work with sick and poor.

An apostol of peace Mother Teresa was called an apostle of peace. She was full of mercy and pity.
