Opening Sequences Fin Liddy

Friday the 13th - First person, first victims. This film begins with a scene of people sat in a circle singing a song. The point of view we see this from suggests we are watching it from someone’s point of view as the positioning of the camera is hidden and low down. This already gives us an uneasy feeling. As this opening scene progresses, we find out the person’s point of view we were seeing everything through, is in fact, the villain’s. This gives us an opportunity to see through the eyes of a killer and feel the full empathy for the victims, making this opening sequence powerful and gripping.

Spiderman 2 This opening sequence begins with the production company’s logo, and is then followed by the trademark Marvel logo. The sequence then begins. The sequence then goes into a comic book style, as the Opening credits roll. This opening sequence is accompanied by music by Danny Elfman.

Deadpool The beginning of Deadpool consists with a scroll of different Marvel comics forming the name, accompanied by the song ‘Angel of the Morning’. This sequence is a frozen, slow motion view of the scene the main character later goes on to talk about mid-way through the film. The camera goes on to pan over a car crash that has happened. As this is happening, we come across the opening credits that have not been written seriously at all, along with intertextuality. This opening sequence’s gives the audience a feel of what the main character is like. For example, part-way through the sequence, we see the main character (Deadpool) giving another man a wedgie, which is commonly enjoyed by schoolchildren and immature individuals. This opening sequence is accompanied by the song ‘Angel of the Morning’ by Juice Newton.
