The Leader: Tim Cook Tim Cook, 53 years old. became the leader and the CEO of Apple company in 2011. Before he was Apple’s operator officer plus management of Apple’s supply chain. Responsible of marketing services worldwide. Tim played important role in development strategies of the company. He is known for his methodical, no-nonsense style of leadership. Tim has spent twelve years with the IBM in a computer company in North and Latin America. He has a M. B. A. from Duke University and Bachelor in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University.

The Problem: Problem. Time. People involved. Actions taken by the company. Future Implications.

Short-Term Solutions: Apple should consider working with another supplier that provide good work environment to the employees. Foxconn should consider hiring more employees to provide equally divided weekly task to each individual. Foxconn should consider assigning the employees three days off instead of two or one day. The working hours should be decreased from 60 hours to be 49 hours a week. Apple and Foxconn should provide employees with good amounts of regular payments and good education about security precautions.

Long-Term Solutions: Annual audits reports. Training employees on their rights. Conducting a research before singing contracts with suppliers.

Summary Apple Company, which is an American company specialized in electronics was established in 1976 by Steven Wozniak and Steve Jobs that later under a sudden circumstance Tim Cook had to take the reins of leadership in 2011. The new leader faced an ethical dilemma with a supplier company known as Foxconn located in Wuhan, China. The employees of Foxconn threatened in a protest to suicide after being pushed to the limits with the terrible work environment and conditions they have to deal with that reached to the level of facing an explosion at the factory. For the recent time, Apple contacted the fore most experts in process safety to investigate in the accidents and make some recommendation for future, considering working with another supplier company that doesn’t violate safety and ethical codes, and for Foxconn to change the recent work conditions regarding payment, hours of work, and the consuming of human energy As for long-term solutions, Apple has assigned annual audits reports to monitor the working conditions from all aspects regarding the validity of records, age of employees, and hours of work, training over a million employees about their rights as employees aside to methods that hopefully will prevent injuries and diseases, and finally the need of conducting well-structured and detailed studies and investigations before singing in for partnership with any other supplier company.
