Difference – advantages Diploma – full program – full IB experience – Universities look at full diploma first when considering applications, well rounded curriculum – humanities, sciences, languages Research clearly shows that 1st year students who do the IB diploma are a full letter grade higher in their first year of university Most early admission is saved for full IB Better scholarships Partial – if you don’t want to handle the demands of the full IB Are busy with other things eg. Heavy into sports, music Don’t feel academically ready Full diploma fill classes first Partial is permitted only if space permits Last year – no spaces in chemistry for instance Partial can take TOK if room permits Not all students in full diploma choose to take university credit for courses. Instead, they take an easy first year and get excellent grades Transition into university is: ‘seamless”

The IB undertakes random inspections of schools during exams. What is special about IB assessment? IB assessment is rigorous, criterion related, consistent and differentiating of student ability. Diploma Programme assessment includes both final examinations and internal assessment undertaken by the teacher to IB criteria and then externally moderated by the IB. The diploma is graded over 45 points giving ample scope to differentiate student ability Marks awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest). Diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points. 4. The overall diploma pass rate has been consistent year to year 5.
