What happened? Society of Jesus was developed by Ignatius of Loyola He wanted to create a permanent union In 1540 Pope Paul III approved the plan of the new order In Ignatius of Loyola & the Jesuits,  Loyola was born into a wealthy family. He joined the army but ended up getting wounded. He wanted to find his way into salvation. He eventually became the first General of Loyola and helped the church's quality improve and was an important part of the Counter-Reformation.

Who was involved? Ignatius of Loyola (father General) The Jesuits Pope Marcellus II

How does this show religious disunity in Europe? The society grew rapidly, and it quickly assumed a prominent role in the Counter-Reformation defense and revival of Catholicism. Almost from the beginning, education and scholarship became the society’s principal work. The early Jesuits, however, also produced preachers who devoted themselves to the care of the young, the sick, prisoners, prostitutes, and soldiers. As Ignatius sent Saint Francis Xavier, his most gifted companion, and three others to the East. More Jesuits were to be involved in missionary work than in any other activity, save education. By the middle of the 18th century people were seeking to destroy the order.
