New Age groups US Lacrosse establishes eligibility guidelines to promote a safe and sportsmanlike environment. US lacrosse believes that leagues, associations and other organizers of youth lacrosse should provide playing opportunities that, as much as possible, aim to establish a “level playing field” among players of similar ages. In order to help ensure this, US Lacrosse has changed the age groups for both boys and girls lacrosse. The age groups are still determined by Date of Birth for both Boys and Girls

Girls Lacrosse overview Many differences to the boys game including equipment, field striping, and rules The sport emphasizes fun, team work, hand/eye coordination, speed, stamina and safety! Our teams at all levels welcome new players to the sport! In two years: We have built the biggest girls program in the area Our teams have had great success in league games and tournaments Thanks to all of our great coaches and to our past girls coordinator (Dale Freking) for the hard work in getting us established!

Girls Lacrosse overview Game and Team Structure We expect to have at least one team at each level We coordinate with Eagan, Eastview, Apple Valley if needed to makes sure all interested girls in the area can play Current RAAA registrations (as of 2/6/2017) 8U/10U - 3 12U - 7 14U – 13 Level Field Size # Players Ideal Team Size 8U / 10U Half 7 v 7; no goalies 10 – 15 12U and 14U Full 12 v 12 18 – 24+

Girls Season structure Similar to past two seasons April: Skill sessions in Irish Dome Two times per week May - Early August: Outdoor practices, games, and tournament Practices and games – approximately three times per week Will try to avoid weekends Field will likely be Fieldstone in Lakeville (near Hy-Vee)

girls season April Skills Training Spring skills will be held in April at the Irish Dome: Emphasis is on basic fundamentals, small area games and scrimmages Eagan, Eastview and Apple Valley Led by adult coaches and High school varsity players Anybody interested in helping coach should jump in and volunteer

girls season May - August Outside practices and scrimmages start (approx. 2 practices per week) Farmington Jamboree to be scheduled June and July: Approximately 8 games against other MSSLAX teams – most / all games are in the south metro area We encourage everyone to form/find a team for optional 4x4 tournament as part of Leprechaun days August: End of season MSSLAX tournament August 4th and 6th at Lakeville South High School

Girls Team formation Teams may include girls from other associations but we will attempt to create Rosemount-only teams where possible Target is for teams to be formed by the end of April 8U / 10U and 12U: MSSLAX does not have different levels If we have more than one team, coaches and board attempt to make the teams competitively even 14U: MSSLAX offers “A” and “B” divisions If we have more than one team, we must have at least one “A” team Any players that are playing on our high school team must play on a “A” team for the summer Based on current projections, we expect to have one A and one B team Evaluations are scheduled for end of April

Volunteers needed Coaching Team Managers Goal is to have a parent Head Coach with a college / high school player as Assistant Coach for each team We have a few dedicated and great adult coaches at 12U and 14U Don’t be afraid to volunteer as a coach, especially at 8U/10U level If interested, we will get you up-to-speed April Skills Sessions are a good way to learn from others Team Managers Helps coaches with communication, website, and organizing volunteers for games

Team formation IP – Boys and Girls 8U / 10U Spring Box 8U Summer No evaluations for IP. Teams are formed based on school attendance and geography - we try to keep schoolmates together. No special requests will be accepted. 8U / 10U Spring Box No evaluations for 8U and 10U spring for Dakota Lacrosse Teams will be chosen by the Age Group Coordinators and coaches based mainly on skill (we will not be able to honor requests) 8U Summer One-day player evaluations conducted on May 22nd or May 24th Evaluations will be conducted by age group coordinator and coaches Equal teams will be formed 10U Summer One-day player evaluations conducted on May 23rd or May 24th

Evaluation Process for Girls 14U, Boys 14U and 12U Evaluations: Two-day player evaluations conducted on April 26th and 28th Evaluations will be conducted by outside evaluators hired by the board Evaluations will be run by the outside evaluators (they decide on drills, give instructions to players, demonstrate drills for players, etc.) Board Members that do NOT have players in that age group may participate in the evaluations as silent observers Players need to try out for the position that they want to play for the season Players will be scored on athleticism, lacrosse IQ, stick skills. Face of skills and goalie skills will also be scored. Players will be given a combined score for both days Although we do encourage players to attend both days of evaluations, it is not mandatory. However, attending only one day of evaluations could affect the players score

Evaluation Process for Girls 14U, Boys 14U and 12U Evaluations (Continued) The outside evaluators will select the A team No adjustments will be made to the A team selected by the outside evaluators If there are 3 or more teams at an age level, equal B teams will be formed Teams will be posted by end of day Monday, May 1st The board’s evaluation committee will select the equal B teams, based on evaluation scores and input from age group coordinators, past and current coaches NO spectators are allowed during the evaluations Players not available for evaluations Players not able to participate in evaluations for medical reasons will be provided an alternate evaluation process per our current policy document Players unable to attend any of the evaluation days for reasons other then medical, the player will automatically be placed on a B team

Finance Update 2017 fee summary: Reduction of $20 for 8U Spring due to fewer hours of box league then 10U Addition of $20 for boys 12U and 14U to cover additional spring training Addition of $15 to cover the entire girls uniform Addition of $10 for 14U girls due to requirement for evaluations Addition of $20 for 14U girls due to paid coaches Addition of $25 for 9/10 due to increase in compensation for paid coaches We are very competitive in fees compared to neighboring communities Fundraising and donations are invested in the program to benefit everyone: Equipment (nets, goalie equipment, etc.) Coaching development Player fees go directly to the player and team – see the next slide

Other summer opportunities Boys Lacrosse Face Off and Shooting Camp (grades 3-9) Improve and develop two of the most crucial lacrosse skills that have a large impact on your game! During the first half of camp, players will work on the fundamentals of a lacrosse shot from multiple dimensions of the lacrosse field. The second half of the camp will focus on the intricate art of the face off. Learn multiple moves and counter moves to the face off. Players will see the impact on their game by taking more shots and more face offs than they will see all season! Boys Lacrosse 3 on 3 Fast Break Camp (grades 3-9) In the game of lacrosse, over 70% of goals are scored during fast break and odd man situations. Learn the skills and techniques needed to master fast break offensive and defensive situations. Players will be trained by a camp staff made up of local high school coaches and varsity players who have over 30 years of experience combined. Daily sessions will include odd man situations, fast break drills, fast whistle restarts and small game 3 v 3 competitions. Small games situations will increase the number of repetitions and touches you will experience with the ball. Each daily session will conclude with tournament. Prizes will be awarded.
