WOULD THE WAR HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT THE PETITION OF RIGHTS? ENGLISH CIVAL WAR MARISA HOGG, TAYANA THERRIEN & KENZIE RANDELL

PETITION OF RIGHTS(1689) THE PETITION OF RIGHTS WAS A COMPLAINT FROM THE PARLIAMENT TO THE KING. CHARLES 1 WAS GATHERING “FORCED LOANS” WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE PARLIAMENT AND IMPRISONING THE ONES WHO WOULDN’T PAY. IN RESPONSE, HOUSE OF COMMONS CAME UP WITH FOUR RESOLUTIONS, MINIMIZING THESE ACTIONS AND RESTATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MAGNA CARTA AND THE LEGAL REQUIREMENT OF HABEAS CORPUS, THESE WERE SOON REJECTED BY CHARLES, AND MADE HIM QUITE MAD CONSIDERING HE ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT PARLIAMENT WOULD BE DISSOLVED. AFTER A LONG WAIT AND A LOT OF PROCESSING, CHARLES 1 GAVE IN TO THE PRESSURE AND FINALLY ACCEPTED THE PETITION OF RIGHTS.

IMPORTANCE OF THE PETITON OF RIGHTS PETITION OF RIGHTS WAS HIGHLY PERSUASIVE. THE PETITION IS NOW ONE OF ENGLANDS MOST FAMOUS CONSTITUTIONAL DOCUMENTS. THE PETITION OF RIGHTS DEMANDED THAT NO FREEMAN SHOULD BE FORCED TO PAY ANY TAC, LOAN OR BENEVOLENCE, UNLESS ACCORDANCE WITH AN ACT OF PARLIAMENT; THAT NO FREEMAN SHOULD BE IMPRISONED CONTRARY TO THE LAW OF THE LAND; SOLDIERS SHOULD NOT BE BILLETED ON A PRIVATE PERSON; COMMISIONS TO PUNISH SOLDIERS BY MARTIAL LAW SHOULD BE ABOLSIHED. Henry Beauchamp, Duke of Warwick

THE WAR WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT THE PETITION OF RIGHTS The war would’ve happened without the petition of rights because it was a petition made so that people would get more rights. If it wasn’t signed it would be more likely for the war to happen because the parliament would be furious and be more likely to start a war.

DO YOU THINK THE ENGLISH CIVAL WAR WOULD’VE HAPPENED WITHOUT THE PETITION OF RIGHTS? YES NO 8 9
