Welcome to LUM HEAD PRIMARY SCHOOL

Lummy Bear

Overview of where we are now A vibrant, successful, happy school Children who are happy, hardworking, high achieving and well behaved Stable staff and a strong leadership team Effective, supportive governors A dynamic group of parents – Friends of Lum Head Parents’ questionnaire responses in March were very positive. More first preferences for a Reception place than last year, almost double the year before.

Attainment and progress Provisional data for this year is looking strong. Our clear focus has been on having high aspirations for all our children. We have high expectations of the children, and we expect them to share those high expectations. Our teaching and learning this year has been very focused on strategies to ensure that children achieve as highly as they are able.

In Brief… This year we have been very busy making improvements to various aspects of school life… Many new initiatives to promote reading and to accelerate progress in reading and phonics Interventions to support those children who need some extra support A broad, exciting curriculum with many opportunities to experience something new – sports, music, trips, visitors New outdoor equipment, e.g. goalposts, netball posts and the adventure playground

Attendance Full attendance and arriving at school on time every day are very important. Your child’s learning will be held back if they do not attend school every day. Our aim this year is for all children to be in school for 96% of the year; currently our whole school average is 97%. Medical issues Talk to us if you have any concerns, we might be able to help!

School Uniform A school uniform helps to give the children and school and sense of identity and belonging We have tried to make out uniform as simple and affordable as possible Sweatshirts/ cardigans with the school logo are great, but plain navy sweatshirts/ cardigans are also fine PE kits should be in school every day WRITE YOUR CHILD’S NAME IN EVERYTHING –AND KEEP GOING OVER IT AS PEN WASHES OUT!

Future Plans We are ambitious for all our children to achieve as highly as they can; we will continue to develop teaching and learning to ensure this happens Breadth and balance – music, art, sport, and all other subjects are very important Music next year – peripatetic teachers, Y4 ukelele, Ms Nolan teaching KS2 and singing practice French – specialist French teacher next year for KS2 Sport next year – Active Boys & Girls, Sports Ambassadors, netball, running, Little Sports after school activities…and much more! Outdoor learning – great start on Reception outdoor play area, Forest School work starting next year Provide as wide a range as we can of other opportunities – trips, visitors, special events Breakfast Club will be run by school staff only next year – broader range of activities

How can you help? Hear your child read every night – little and often works best – school reading books are at the correct level. Support your child with homework, encourage them and show an interest in their work. We will review homework regularly. Talk to school if you have any concerns, however small. Pay for any trips or visits, as this is the only way we can sustain this. If you think your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium, please apply – school will receive extra funding which will help your child and other children too. Make sure your child comes to school on time every day with all equipment, e.g. named PE kit, water bottle, healthy snacks, reading book, reading record and bookbag. Support the FoLH, come to meetings, help at events, raise funds Tell us what you think – we welcome all feedback

Ways to keep in touch We are now on Twitter – please follow us @lumheadprimary Please check our weekly newsletters for information. These are also on our website, which we update regularly. Use the school’s website and newsletters for accurate information about what’s going on. Get in touch with the school office, your class teacher or one of the senior staff if you have questions or concerns. Next Wednesday we are holding a Parents’ Information evening at 6pm to expand on the areas covered today. Please join us if you can.

Playdates! Some of the parents of our new Reception children have organised some informal get-togethers at the playground at Gatley rec., Gatley Village. They would like to invite all new parents to join them. Saturday 22nd July at 10am Friday 11th August at 2pm Sunday 4th September at 3pm Time to get to know your new friends!
