Curriculum Evening 5th July 2016 St Michael’s CE Primary School

Outline Celebrate successes of the year Plan ahead for next year Inform re: organisation, classes, staffing

Successes Homework- new system, more focuses, based on core learning, much greater engagement, really making a difference, children enjoying their success Engagement with parents – many more workshops, updates in newsletter, greater use of website, social media, listening and responding Feedback- really tight, whole school approach, consistency, transparency, been noted by external validation (pink, green, purple) Boys' learning - boy friendly topics, wide variety of visits and experiences, increased engagement, good behaviour for learning and perseverance- external validation – continued (anything we do for boys actually helps the girls) Continued focus on wider curriculum eg arts / music Performance indicators: GLD (up 10%) / phonics improvements (up 10%) KS1 brand new as yet no comparison. KS2 no national measure.

Bags and pencil cases - independence Laptops – sponsorship – Edinburgh College Junior Prince’s Award- skills force- (Mr Baker)

Year 5/ 6 Equipment List In own pencil case: Pencil – HB Ruler Rubber Sharpener Colouring pencils Small glue stick Pen (once a pen licence is earned! More information to follow!)

Year 5 Practicalities In September – line up by next pencil Collected by Mr Baker Same cloakroom Same classroom – heightened expectations – 1 year older! Brought out at the end of the day – pass on or walk home if agreement given! Anything else – please ask
