FACT Alcohol is involved in over half of all fatal auto accidents.

MYTH In South Dakota you can be 18 years old to purchase alcohol. This is a myth, you must be 21 years old to purchase alcohol anywhere in the United States.

MYTH Scarring and destruction of your liver is defined as an ulcer. Cirrhosis is defined as scarring and destruction of your liver.

FACT Alcohol has no food value, but lots of calories.

FACT Alcohol dulls the senses– not only sight, but sense of touch, smell, taste, and hearing as well. Think back to our activity with the ruler and how your reaction time was slower when one of your senses was not functioning at full speed!

FACT Heavy drinkers have an increased risk of cancer of the mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver, and bladder. Also have a greater risk for stomach ulcers.

MYTH Alcohol can not change your brain. Your brain is growing in size and expanding academically until the age of 21. Drinking before the age of 21 is very dangerous.

FACT Withdrawal is the brain’s way of trying to recover after heavy alcohol use. Withdrawal is one of the main reasons why many people can not beat their alcohol addiction.
