Distracted Driving Distracted driving is the act of driving while engaged in other activities that that take the drivers attention away from the road. All distractions compromise the safety of the driver, passengers, bystanders and those in other vehicles.

2014 Between January 1st and July 15th there have been 1,302 collisions involving commercial vehicles where driver distraction, inattention or cell phone use was a contributing factor. 313 Injuries 13 Fatalities

2014 Between January 1st and July 15th there have been 32,217 collisions involving passenger vehicles where driver distraction, inattention or cell phone use was a contributing factor. 7,030 Injuries 81 Fatalities

2014 Between January 1st and July 15th there have been 2,444 collisions involving passenger vehicles where alcohol or drug use was a contributing factor. 1,471 Injuries 70 Fatalities

So what is the bigger problem alcohol or distracted driving So what is the bigger problem alcohol or distracted driving? There is no Kentucky Revised Statute that specifically addresses distracted driving. However, for CDL and drivers under 18 there is a communication device law that provides some restrictions.

What you can do… Limit distractions in the vehicle Wear your seat belts and make sure everyone else in the vehicle does, too

Distracted Driving One additional teen inside the vehicle doubles the chances of being involved in a fatal collision. Distractions caused by other occupants and speed are the two most common reasons.

The average teen takes their eyes off of the road 10% of the time The average teen takes their eyes off of the road 10% of the time. That jumps to 40% when a teen is texting while driving. Texting means a 400% increase in the amount of time that your eyes are off the road.
