The Power of Prayer

Watch me! So what makes for a good prayer? How are we to pray? During His sermon, Jesus began a model prayer for us with these words: “So pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honoured, may your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:9-10). Jesus tells us to pray to “Our Father in heaven.” This should set our mental attitude as we come to a time of prayer.  Watch me!

Creating a form prayer…. Like on the video clip you are going to all be involved in the creation of your form prayer. You will each create one line of your form prayer. At the beginning of each year, the year 7’s that join your form, will be invited to add to the form prayer. That way your form prayer will grow each year and will contain the prayers of those who have left All Saints’ and moved on to the new chapters in their lives.

How to start Listen to me! What to do next… There is an A3 piece of paper at the front of the class. When you have written your sentence come to the front and copy it out onto your display piece of paper. Do this in silence to keep the reflective atmosphere. Your form prayer will be displayed on your form or prayer boards  Listen to the relaxing music. Take a minute to silently think about what is important to you. Who or what do you want to pray for. Once you have made your decision write your sentence. Your sentence will begin like this: We pray for……

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day; I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me, and heavier came each task. "Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered. He answered, "You didn't ask." I wanted to see joy and beauty,  but the day toiled on, gray and bleak; I wondered why God didn't show me. He said, "But you didn't seek." I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock. God gently and lovingly chided, "My child, you didn't knock." I woke up early this morning, and paused before entering the day; I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray. Amen
