Presentation transcript:

This is Jeopardy Evolution To make this game… First think of five review categories and five questions for each category. Add the categories to the top of the table in slide 2. Place your questions according to the categories into the slides. For example…C1-200 is the question for Category 1 worth 200 points. C5-400 is the question for Category 5 worth 400 points. Place a final jeopardy question in the Final Jeopardy box. Test your slide show. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lorinsomerlot@mac.com or lsomerlot@new-albany.k12.oh.us

Category No. 1 Category No. 2 Category No. 3 Category No. 4 No. 5 100 200 300 400 500 To play the game. Divide you class into teams. If you have bells or some other way of emulating ringing in your answers, knock yourself out! The contestant chooses a category and a point value. Click on their choice and you will advance to the associated slide. Click on the slide to reveal the answer. Once the contestant has stated the question click on the slide again to reveal the question. Click BACK to return to the Categories Slide. The first contestant from team 1 goes first then I alternate to the next team. Final Jeopardy

C1-100-The answer is… During his travels Darwin noticed this structural adaptation of finches. Different beaks Back

C1-200-The answer is… Acquired trait A giraffe stretching his neck or a person building big muscles is an example of this. Acquired trait Back

C1-300-The answer is… Darwin gathered much of his evidence of evolution on these islands. Galapagos Back

C1-400-The answer is… Hutton and Lyell influenced Darwin because they suggested that … Earth was old enough for evolution to have occurred. Back

C1-500-The answer is… Darwin’s revolutionary scientific ideas were published in a work titled On the Origin of the Species Back

C2-100-The answer is… The definition of “fitness” is Most able to survive and reproduce Back

C2-200-The answer is… Artificial selection When a farmer breeds only his best livestock, the process involved is called Artificial selection Back

C2-300-The answer is… The appendix in humans and pelvis in whales are examples of Vestigial organs. Back

C2-400-The answer is… This was the missing link in Darwin’s Theory Genetics - DNA Back

C2-500-The answer is… Structures that look somewhat alike and serve the same function but have different embryological origins. Analagous Back

C3-100-The answer is… Most fossils form here. Sedimentary rock Back

C3-200-The answer is… Miller and Urey’s experiments attempted to demonstrate this. How organic molecules formed Back

C3-300-The answer is… Index fossil To compare the relative age of fossils, scientists often use an easily recognized species called a/an Index fossil Back

C3-400-The answer is… The endosymbiotic theory proposes that eukaryotic cells arose from … A symbiotic relationship between 2 prokaryotes Back

C3-500-The answer is… Why did oceans not exist 4 billion years ago? Water was a gas because so hot Back

C4-100-The answer is… The first organisms on Earth were most likely? Bacteria Back

C4-200-The answer is… In the past, mass extinctions encouraged the rapid evolution of surviving species by…. Making new habitats available to them Back

C4-300-The answer is… Spontaneous generation is the hypothesis that life comes from? Non-living matter Back

C4-400-The answer is… The process by which 2 species evolve in response to each other is called.. Coevolution Back

C4-500-The answer is… The type of evolution represented by Darwin’s Finches. Divergent evolution or adaptive radiation. Back

C5-100-The answer is… This theory states that life comes from other life. biogenesis Back

C5-200-The answer is… Which gas is the most predominant in our atmosphere? Nitrogen Back

C5-300-The answer is… Organisms that have similar genetic make-ups have a Recent common ancestor Back

C5-400-The answer is… Fossilized evidence of Earth’s first life forms would consist of: Prokaryotes from the Precambrian Back

C6-500-The answer is… What was the significance of the formation of the ozone layer? Protected land animals from UV radiation Back

Final Jeopardy List and explain four possible causes of the mass extinctions that have occurred in Earth’s history. Back End Game
