December 12th to December 16th Fall Book Fair Activities: Book fair sales will take place during regular library hours. Those who purchase items will be entered into a raffle to win great prizes.   For more than 30 years, Scholastic has been providing students, teachers, and parents with access to thousands of affordable books and educational products. These in-school events encourage reading, which leads to success inside and outside the classroom. All proceeds go to purchasing more resources for the Solis Library. Multicultural Holiday Celebrations Activities: Books depicting the different holidays will be displayed in the library as well as our bulletin board. Discussion held with community members. Do your students celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or Three Kings Day? Maybe they celebrate St. Lucia Day or Ramadan. December offers great opportunities for teaching about our multicultural world. December 5th to the 9th Hour of Code: Unplugged Activities: Everyday this week the library will be hosting activities that deal the fundamentals of computer science without the need of computers. Topics that will be addressed include: Algorithms, Binary, and Computational Thinking. https://code.org/curriculum/unplugged The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event. The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2016 Computer Science Education Week will be December 5-11, but you can host an Hour of Code all year round. Computer Science Education Week is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906).
