Looking for a way to incorporate real-life mathematics into the classroom? Have that difficult class that needs some special motivation? Do you teach an intervention class?

Here are a few sample topics that you could cover in a semester long program. Your imagination is the only limitation! Central Tendency Binary Numbers Dilations Evaluation of Functions Circle and Bar Graphs Scale Factor Slope, y-intercept Matrix Multiplication Parallel Lines Graphing Lines

THE SET-UP Place your kids in groups of 3-4. This will be their “team” for the remainder of the semester. Pick a team name, and get ready to draft a team of NFL players.

THE DRAFT Print off the Draft Board from the website. Choose any player from the Draft Board. You will need one of each of the following positions: Quarterback Running Back Wide Receiver Kicker NFL Team

SCORING Just like in real fantasy football, points are earned based on the stats from the weekend’s games. The better a player does, the more points he scores. A scoring sheet is provided on the website. Of course, doing something bad in a game will result in negative points. Add everything up at the end, and you have a winner!

STATS Stats will be posted on the website by Tuesday night. Just go to www.mathbymorrison.com and click on the Fantasy Football tab. You can currently see a sample stat sheet from last season on the website.

WORKSHEET The Stats Worksheet makes it easy to determine the number of points earned by the team. SAMPLE TEAM: DeMarcus Ware-Wolves QB – Tony Romo RB – Arian Foster WR – Dez Bryant K – Dan Bailey TEAM – Minnesota Vikings

SAMPLE Romo 3 0 0 353 Foster 0 0 0 57 Bryant 0 0 0 141 Bailey 0 2 1 0 Vikings 2 1 0 STATS WORKSHEET WITH AUTOMATIC SCORE

NOW WHAT? I have the kids fill out their stat sheet and find out how many points their team scored. Then, they will have another challenge to do. Be creative!!! By the end of the season, you can do all sorts of neat activities that reinforce major concepts.

POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES Keep checking back on the website for ideas and suggestions for class activities!

TIME TO KICK OFF! Please email or call if you have any questions or concerns! Let your friends know about Fantasy Football and pass along my information! I hope 2014-15 is a very successful year for all! bryan@mathbymorrison.com (325) 212- 9758
