EL Civics 12.4 DMV and Vehicle Registration In-Service Winter 2017  

DMV and Vehicle Registration Goal of Objective 12.4 Student will be able to describe and access service offered at the DMV. Additionally, student will be able to read, interpret, and identify legal responses to regulations, roadside signs, and traffic signals.  

The Tasks of Three Beginning Low: Task 1 and Task 2 Beginning High: Task 1, Task 2 , and Task 3 Intermediate Low: Task 1, Task 2 , and Task 3 Int. High - Advanced: Task 1, Task 2 , and Task 3 *Intermediate High- Advanced are combined into one Assessment, so please circle the level the student is actually doing because points need to pass is different.

Task 1: “I Saw the Sign” UNDERSTAND ROAD SIGNS and TRAFFIC SIGNALS The student will see 10 pictures of road signs and traffic signals and will provide a one sentence answer to what the sign means. Levels: BL, BH, IL, IH, Adv

Task 2: “Is there an officer, problem?” Role Play a Traffic Stop   The student will role play a conversation between a driver and a traffic police officer. The student will: Read and understand then give their Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration and Proof of Insurance. Speak the part of the driver. Answer questions in a role play asked by the teacher. (Police Officer). Display proper behavior when talking to the teacher (Police Officer). Levels: BL, BH, IL, IH, Adv

Question 1 – BL & BH “Can I see your driver’s license?” Appropriate answers: “Yes, Mr. Officer, here it is.” “Let me take it out of my wallet for you.” Inappropriate answers: “Oops, I forgot it at home.” “No speak English.”

Question 2 – BL & BH “Can you show me your registration and proof of insurance?” Appropriate answers: “Yes, Mr. Officer, here it is.” “My car is registered until November and my insurance is through Geico.” Inappropriate answer: “Mine’s expired, teacher!”

Question 3 – BL & BH “Do you know the speed limit on this street?” Appropriate answers: “I believe the sign said 35 miles per hour.” “It’s 35 miles per hour. I hope I wasn’t going too fast.” Inappropriate answers: “Yeah, about half of what I was going.” “No!”

Question 3 – IL-Adv “How fast were you driving?” Appropriate answers: “I think I was driving about 35 mph.” “Honestly, I think 35 mph.” Inappropriate answers: “A lot slower than this baby can really go.” “I know I was speeding.”
