Conclusions and room for improvements General agreement about the remarkable success of the workshop Large participation despite of the strike of one of the two main air carriers In contrast to the early expectations, no major MPI contribution was dropped due to the choice of a not European host Such choice rather favored a wider participation from the American members of the MPI community Number of talks (including the ones given on behalf of the LHC collaborations) comparable to the former edition (Trieste 2015). Appreciation for the 5x30’ Introductory talks and 5x40’ Discussion sessions. here just few notes on things that could be improved Need to always check the effective duration of the talks and to carefully monitor also the subsequent discussion Big (90 min.) total delay on Tuesday November 29 Perfect timing on Thursday December 1, when such policy was enforced 20’ duration (including questions/comments) is clearly too short for most of the talks How to increase the talk duration keeping all the talks plenary and without cutting the program? Some sensible merging of talks from large collaborations could be adopted
Proceedings? Threee options Decision taken Today (or through a poll) No proceedings Only publication of highlights (collected by the conveners) Possibility to retain them in a World Scientific publication. Paolo and Antonio coordinate this A more detailed report The conveners act as editors for their section The organizers act as global editors Possibility to use DESY-PROC, along the lines of the 7th MPI@LHC Decision taken Today (or through a poll) Deadline (if applicable) end of March
9th MPI@LHC Two candidates: Decision taken by the members of the IAB India South Africa Other options (Perugia, Rio, Wuhan) retained for the 10th edition Decision taken by the members of the IAB Specific poll launched after Today’s meeting The suggestions for the improvements collected Today (including the ones circulated offline, for example the one we got from Klaus Werner) should be implemented by the new LOC Suggestions for the timeline Definition of the host by the end of January Definition of the Working Groups and Conveners by the end of April Deadline for the abstracts: end of September
MPI@LHC IAB IAB Members IAB Chair (currently Arthur Moraes (Rio)) A survey on the availability to keep serving in the IAB is made each year. Two representatives of the new LOC are invited to join the IAB. J. Butterworth wishes to step down, it is proposed to replace him with Deepak Kar (Wits). IAB Chair (currently Arthur Moraes (Rio)) Proposal of Michelangelo Mangano nominate a co-chair (it would be great to have a theorist) have a rotation of this responsibility Each chair could be in charge for two years New chairs are provided by the new organizers It would be appropriate to re-discuss this after the definition of the host for the next MPI@LHC w/s
MPI@LHC: IAB vs Participants Participants of the 8th MPI@LHC w/s America, Asia and Africa clearly still under-represented This scenario supports the first proposal outlined in the previous slide: We wish to thank Jon Butterworth for serving as proactive IAB members since the 1st edition of the workshop (Perugia 2008), at the same time we warmly welcome Deepak Kar, one of the most active members of the MPI community and experimental convener in the last edition.
