Welcome to Curriculum Night! MRs. Woods 2017-2018

What do we teach? Beyond the reading, writing, and math, our goal is to teach your children how to be productive members of society. In order to do so, we must make our students confident, strong, and able to learn from their mistakes. We accomplish this through practice, hard work, and laughter.

Where do we begin? Before we can teach your students that they can accomplish anything, we must first assess what they know. The next few slides cover where the students were assessed for the beginning of the year in reading and math.

Isteep Math Assessment

What next? In School: At Home: We continue to assess at least once a month to monitor all of our student’s progress. If a student isn’t achieving at grade level, we also have tutoring and other resources to help your child succeed. At Home: There are lots of things you can do at home to help your student succeed. Make sure your child has the time and place to complete their homework each night. Read aloud together. Write letters to each other. Play math games. Do flash cards for math fluency. Title 1 Reading and Math Title I, under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), provides financial assistance to local educational agencies to meet the needs of special educationally disadvantaged children at preschool, elementary, and secondary school levels. The purpose of Title I is to help all children achieve the state’s academic standards. This is accomplished through supplemental programs that consist of instructional services, instructional support services, school wide reform efforts, and increased involvement of parents in their children’s education. Students in 1-5th grade who fall far below on the ISteep reading and/or math assessments are serviced during the academic day for reading and/math intervention time with our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Block.
